Debits and Credits

I have spent all week learning accounting. Thrilling I know, but it’s actually pretty interesting. Maybe not like the most interesting thing ever, but it’s keeping me busy. Certainly there are lots of things to learn. For example, I spent an hour this afternoon trying to figure out what “debit” and “credit” actually mean. you might think it means taking money out of your account or putting money in my account. For example I use my debit card to buy groceries and my account is credited when I deposit a paycheck. Well, actually debit and credit really just mean left and right. So technically, when I use my “debit” card to buy groceries I am decreasing my assets (money in my checking account) which is actually considered to be a credit transaction. go figure. No wonder accountants drink.

Quiet Weekend

This weekend has been so nice and relaxing. Last weekend we were so busy, this weekend it was nice just to do nothing and be lazy. Friday night we went to the Mongolian Grill on Lamar (the not so great side of Lamar) and ate well…quite a bit. So much, in fact, that we came back to my apartment and just watched TV in bed all night. The only thing on, unfortunately, was America’s Got Talent, which I’m sorry to report to you is a false statement. The best part of the show is the commentary by David “You know I’m a fan of juggling” Hasselhoff. It’s pretty stupid, expect that when you get voted off you can be a smart ass back to the judges.

Saturday was a busy day, I got my hair done in the morning, then met Ashley at Central Market for some lunch (goat cheese and spinach pizza) and shopping. The shops were having a sidewalk sale, but unfortunately they weren’t selling anything really great. We went to Central Market and I got some delicious Pineapple Orange juice (my own version of crack) and some pluots and other deliciuos fruits. I stopped off at HEB afterwards for the things you can’t get at Central Market like Diet Coke and cereal and foods that Josh will eat. I came back, took a nice long nap on the couch then joined Josh at his apartment.

Josh worked hard all day cleaning up and organizing his apartment. It looks really nice, especially with a new table and the picture I gave him hung up. We went to subway for a quick dinner then TCBY for some “healthy” dessert. I watched another episode of Sopranos that I’m so far behind on and just relaxed while Josh worked on some website stuff.

This morning we had Juan in a Millions (delicious) and I don’t think we really have anything else planned. I know Josh wants to update his websites, and I might go test my luck at the pool again, and see how burned I can get two weeks in a row. Then it’s back to work tomorrow.

At work I’m learning QuickBooks and training to be able to do the QB setup and training for our clients. I’m excited about learning how to do it, Larry brought me an accounting text book to help me learn the accounting theory behind all of this. I’m always up for expanding my horizons and learning new skills. I’m pretty good with the theoretical info for QB, we’ll just see how it goes on actual companies!

JB + KA = 5 years!

On Saturday Josh and I celebrated our Five Year Anniversary!! It was a really great night. For dinner we went to Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion restaurant down town. It was unbeliveable! Josh had seared ahi tuna and I had butterfish with a wasabi butter sauce. Yum-o. For an appetizer we had lobster potstickers which Josh wasn’t even in the mood for, but seemed to eat more of them than I did! The food was so incredible. It was so flavorful and delicious, but even after eating every bit of food on my plate, I wasn’t overstuffed. Sometimes you go out to eat and after dinner are so unpleasantly full you can’t stand to think about food, but this wasn’t the case with Roys. The portion sizes were very reasonable, and I loved every bite of food. For dessert we had the most amazing chocolate souffle ever. Seriously, in the history of desserts this has to rank right up there.

After dinner we took a walk around downtown and had the carriage ride that I’ve been wanting for the last five years. Josh was really the one who insisted, which I thought was really sweet as he knew that I always have a sweet spot for romance. We had Bob the horse (not pony) take us around downtown on a really pleasant evening.

We came back to my apartment, watched the end of the Pink Panther (which was hilarious) and had a bit of romance of our own. It was a really really special evening. Quite romantic.

Today Josh went rowing in the morning and I got a severely uneven bright red sunburn on very strategic parts of my body. It was such a good weekend, I really don’t want to go to work tomorrow. Maybe we’ll get to start having three day weekends soon…that will be so nice. I think there’s still too much work to do. Anyway, this weekend really was nice. and Josh very sweetly put some 1 year anniversary decorations up. Penguins with hats! What could be cuter?
