A rare, mid-week post

For the first time I don’t know how long I am home from work before 730! I actually left before 6. Of course, I will probably be at work until 7 tomorrow, so there’s probably not any point in rejoicing too much. However, in the interest of keeping my devoted readers happy I will happily post.

Work has been workish, busy and exhausting. Only 19 days left until deadline day so I am so looking forward to that. My poor jayhawks didn’t make it to the next round, so it looks like once again I will be losing my basketball pool at the office. We agreed this year that the losers had to make the winners desserts of their choosing…which is actually really fun since we all have such a sweet tooth, I’m sure there will be some sharing. It’s been really rainy and humid here lately, and I’ve been doing my best to not have to trun on the AC, but i think I might have to give in eventually. I normally just turn it on when I get home, since there doesn’t seem like much point in cooling a house for 14 hours while I’m not here. I’ve been trying to save up some money for while I have to move. I already know there are lots of new things I’ll want to buy. Plus, saving money is kind of enjoyable, and I could stand to be more frugal with my money.

Speaking of saving money, I am trying desperately to find a pair of black and brown flats that are cute, comfortable and something I can wear to work. The problem is that Steve Madden stopped making the exact shoe I wanted, so now I have to seek them out. The closest thing I’ve found costs $385 a pair. Great. My feet hurt so badly when I come home from work, I really need to find some more practical shoe options, but I just can’t bring myself to wear old lady comfy shoes. However…it is probably my youthful vanity that’s causing my feet to hurt. I have created a new office rule that after 6pm I am allowed to wear flip flops.

Other than that things have been good. Josh and I had a nice dinner yesterday and watched Lost. Once again I could  have used some actual plot development, but I digress. No big plans for this weekend as of yet. Hopefully I will get some shopping done and get to hang out with some friends. I am honestly winning the bad friend award lately, but I swear I will be annoying you will all my requests to do things after tax deadline. If only it would come sooner!

Bloglets

Oh dear readers I have forsaken you with my utter abandoment of regular postings. Things have been crazy at work, and it’s quite exhausting. I’ve been working 12+ hour days consistently and it’s very much starting to take a toll on me. I’ll post about the nice positive things that have happened since my last update.

  • Movies: Josh and I saw 300 last weekend and we absolutely loved it. It was a truly awesome movie. Girls, I know you may not be really interested in Spartan warfare, but let me just tell you that the actual battle is secondary to the 300 shirtless, six-packed, mostly naked men running around doing manly and heroic things for two hours. Additionally, we watched the Holiday with Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz and Jack Black last night. It’s an absolutely fabulous movie and will be ranked among my favorite romantic comedies of all time. A must rent. For the record Josh, I was not drooling over Jude Law.
  • San Antonio: Last weekend Josh and I joined his parents in San Antonio for a really lovely afternoon. It was absolutely just what I needed to be able to get away from my tiny apartment, relax outside, eat some good food and some good margaritas and just hang out and relax. It was low key, relaxing and just perfect. One of the best weekends we’ve had in a long time.
  • Brownies for Breakfast: Did anyone know they actually exist? Well Andy and Angela do, and they sent a delicious package of brownies from Fat Witch Brownies. Give me a big brownie and a glass of milk and I’m happy for hours.
  • Apartments: The search for a new apartment is in progress, and not as hard as I thought it might be. The hard part will be the packing and reorganizing and the sacrificing of the old crappy furniture.
  • Dinner: Last night Josh and I treated ourselves to a lovely dinner out at PF Chang’s courtesy of Uncle Bill & Aunt Pam. There’s nothing like a good date night…especially when it involves Chinese food.
  • TV: has anyone watched the new show the Riches on FX? It’s great…highly recommended. I love Eddie Izzard’s comedy and this show really shows off his other talents. Lost has also picked up the pace a little bit and hopefully some actual plot-like events will be developing soon.
  • Work: Work is crazy, hectic and driving me to exhaustion, but hopefully this will all subside within the next few weeks. Hopefully is the operative word there. I honestly go home at night with my cheeks hurting from smiling so much, and my feet aching from running all over the office.
  • Yoga: Isn’t getting practiced as much as it should be…see above for more explanation.

If there’s anything else I’m missing out on I hope I"ll get to post on it soon. Life is good, busy but good. I’m looking forward to a nice long break hopefully involving naps and doing absolutely nothing.

Nothing of Note

Usually on Sundays I like to do an update of what’s been going on, but today I’m just so tired and schlubby feeling I’m not very motivated.

  • I’ve watched two good movies lately and two bad: Good: Marie Antoniette and A Prarie Home Companion, Bad: Crank and For Your Consideration
  • I beat Josh at two games of bowling this weekend. I am almost to the point where I don’t need bumpers anymore…but not quite.
  • I started playing guitar again this weekend, only to discover that the stupid RIAA has taken down all of my favorite tab websites. Boo to them.
  • The new Watch it Now feature on Netflix is totally fun and adds great value to the subscription
  • Got news this week that the Center for Music Therapy where I did my internship will be undergoing some "changes" and Cathy Rivera, my beloved supervisor will be leaving and the site will no longer take interns.
  • Rock Chalk Jayhawk Go KU! Congrats on being a 1 seed and Big 12 Champions!
  • It has always been my secret desire to be a member of the Pussy Cat Dolls…and I come to find out they have a reality show to hold auditions for a new member…I’m so sad I missed out on my opportunity to wear tight clothing and strut. Perhaps they will have another spot open next year and I will be ready!
