Rain, Rain Go Away

Happy Memorial Day everyone. It basically rained the entire weekend here, not very festive at all. Josh and I had a great weekend, even if my plans of a picnic at the park were spoiled by constant rain.

Friday night we ordered pizza and watched the Good German. If you haven’t heard of this movie I suggest watching it, it stars George Clooney and Cate Blanchett who are two of my favorite actors. It’s directed by Steven Soderbergh, but very much in a different style than his more mainstream movies. This is shot in black and white, and takes place right after VE day, when the leaders of the time are getting ready to meet in Potsdam to discuss what to do with Germany. It’s a great plot, certainly one with enough twists to keep you occupied on a sleepy evening.

Saturday morning I headed off the Cathy Rivera and Tom Hughes’ wedding. It was an absolutely beautiful event. I couldn’t have thought of an even more suiting them than the one they chose. Surrounded by friends and family in the outdoor courtyard of Casa del Luz, the rain let up just enough for a brief but touching ceremony. I was invited to sing along with former interns and staff at the CMT, which I thought was really nice. After the ceremony, we progressed to Baby A’s for a really nice lunch full of music and good times catching up with all the former and current interns. It was bittersweet though, because the internship at the Center is ending, and Kate will be the last one in the line. It was so great to see Danielle, Emily and Sarah from my internship days, and I couldn’t believe how much time has passed. The food was delicious, and the margaritas strong and a great time was had by all.

On a side note, I was polite and civil to Hope, even going so far as to sincerely congratulate her on her wedding. Unfortunately I didn’t feel Cathy’s beautiful wedding was the right opportunity to speak my mind.

Saturday afternoon I somehow made it home, driving only slightly under the influence, and took a desperately needed nap and after Josh woke up from his nap I went over to his house to help him install his new spoiler for his car. As awesome and sexy as his car is, and as hot as he looks while driving it, he always felt he needed a spoiler. So, a spoiler we installed. It wasn’t too hard, but since my job was mostly to hold things, I think I’ll reserve judgment for the person who did all the drilling and measuring. It looks great though, you can see pictures on Josh’s website.

That evening we went to see Pirates 3 at a 1030 show…which if you know me, that’s about my bed time. It’s a good movie and I think a nice ending to the series, but I still think the first and second movies are my favorites. This one just wasn’t as captivating as the first two, but it had some great battle scenes and the scenery and effects are just amazing. Since it’s hard to top those first two movies, I’ll definitely recommend the third. I really loved the parts with multiple Captain Jack’s running around….yum.

Sunday was a very lazy day. Josh went to Ikea in the afternoon, I took a nap and went grocery shopping and the BBQ we had planned with moved indoors since, of course, it was raining. We had great steaks from Omaha Steaks and salads and bread. Since I’d picked the movie the night before Josh got to pick the entertainment for the evening, and Josh chose to watch the AMC John Wayne/Memorial Day marathon. Really, it was just an excuse for him to talk like John Wayne all night, which was pretty hilarious after a point. Those movies are pretty good, and I can stand one day out of the year to watch a few.

Today we had some breakfast, got our cell phone plan worked out and did some more work on the spoiler and a little bit of cleaning up on my car.  A lazy day but still productive. Luckily since we’re going to Dallas this weekend it’s only a 3 day week. I can’t complain with that. Really though, this is the first significant time off I’ve had all year. Even during the ice days I was still at work for part of the day. Of course during tax season I was at work all the time, and the one day we got off after tax day went by way too fast. I didn’t even take a day off while I was sick with a sinus infection. I suppose that either makes me a dedicated employee or a huge sucker. I’m not sure which I’d rather be. I’ll be taking some time off in June though, so that will be really nice to take a break. I wish I could go sit on a beach for a week, but I don’t think that’s in the plans. Plus, I think I’d rather take a whole lot of 3 and 4 day  weekends with all my time off than a really long vacation…of course maybe if I were on a beach with a fruity drink I’d change my mind. Perhaps next year!

Weekend Update

Well it’s Sunday evening again, my least favorite time of the whole week. It was a good weekend though. Friday night Josh and I went to Bennigan’s for dinner around 8, and by that time I was absolutely starving. If you aren’t familiar with Benningan’s it’s kind of an Irish chilis, which basically means they have Irish antiques and crap on the walls instead of Americana. Originally the menu used to consist of Irish influenced things…Guinness glazed chicken, Turkey O’Toole, Fish and Chips…you know, American foods with Irish names…but now there’s not even pretending to be Irish anymore. We were offered Blazin’ Nachos for an appetizer…because that’s so Irish? I’m not sure how Caribbean crab cakes and Asian chicken got on the menu in an Irish restaurant, but it’s probably just corporate nonsense. Hey, it’s not like it’s stopping me from eating there. I love their Southwestern Eggrolls…the epitome of Irish.

Josh and I watched Happy Feet at my apartment, and it was pretty cute. Of course, there had to be some mild liberal environmentalism thrown in there. Obviously we can’t just watch a movie about singing and dancing penguins without feeling guilty for eating tuna fish…but it’s okay. Robin Williams was really funny as the little fat penguin. Saturday night we saw 28 Weeks Later…much different from Happy Feet. Josh and I saw the first one in the movies, so I agreed to see the sequel. It was a pretty good movie, I thought this one had more plot than the first one. I closed my eyes during some parts, but I didn’t think it was too scary. I think another sequel might be in the works too.

Today we had Juan in a Millions for breakfast then went grocery shopping. A trip to Ikea was planned, but that had to be rescheduled for next week. I took a rather lengthy nap this afternoon, and thus have no energy left to do anything this evening. I tried to watch Because I Said So but that lasted about 20 minutes. I’ve honestly never experienced a more annoying movie. Diane Keaton is a great actress…but it seems like she was just playing a parody of herself. Not recommended. Anyway, that’s it for this weekend, not a lot planned for this week hopefully it will be quiet and drama free.
