The Usual

After slacking off on vacation last week it is back to the office for me this week. The move is coming up in 14 short days (as is my 25th birthday coincidentally) and it is going to be so hectic until then. Tonight Josh and I are having date night and I have vowed to not talk about the move, bedspreads or any other anxiety provoking topics at all tonight. It will be a nice break from my normal stressed out state.

I am in the process of selling some of my furniture, and I timed perfectly since all the broke, furniture needing college students are pouring into town at an alarming rate. The city is so different full of students which didn’t occur to me until Sunday night when Josh and I went to the grocery store to stock up. Normally we go Sunday mornings while certain groups are still in church and it’s less crowded, but Sunday night was a completely different thing. All through the aisles were aimless looking young people, most of them talking on cell phones, most of them buying completely random food. More than a few were pulling…yes pulling…the shopping carts from the front, letting it drift aimlessly side to side. There were also small groups of these abercrombie and fitch attired co-eds agreeing that every Tuesday, not just this Tuesday should be taco night, and dude, let’s get some poptarts. From my own experience, this will be the first, and only shopping trip, these roomates take before they start hating each other and eating fast food every night, or there is always the option of surviving on liquid diet of bud light and jello shots. I was annoyed with the experience, to say the least.

Josh is very helpful in grocery stores. I make a list for shopping, and he makes a list of all the extra things I throw in as I shop. Apparently the Sunday shopping gave me my best score so far. He also pushes the cart and pulls me out of the way of people. He’s a nice guy.

This weekend we’re going to pack up Josh on Saturday and hopefully get down to auditorium shores for the Red Bull Flugtag. I like that word, it sounds like something from Ikea or something religious people would say in place of a swear word. Say it again…flugtag. I would like to see Superbad and Becoming Jane at the movies, but I think both of those will end up in the netflix queue.

I hope to be able to post pictures as the move progresses to show everyone the varying states of disarray and drama. Perhaps even the key moment of me pulling my hair out or Josh smothering me in my sleep for talking about bedspreads for the 19th time that day will be captured on film for all to enjoy. So much to look forward to!

A Well Deserved Break

Sorry for the lack of posting lately, I’ve been on vacation. Last week I took Wednesday, Thursday and Friday off work to visit my parents. It was a very enjoyable week. I ate a lot of food, as I normally do, but there’s nothing like home cooked food….that you don’t have to cook yourself. I slept, was lazy, went shopping and generally hung around. I don’t get too many opportunities to do that during the holidays because of the nephew factor, but that’s just a different kind of family time. It’s nice to be taken care of once and a while, and not having to be the one doing the cooking and cleaning and worrying. I didn’t want to come back, because I knew what a mess my office would be when I got back…and of course it didn’t disappoint.

Let me elaborate about my work for a few minutes. We work really long hours during tax season…like 12 hour days, and instead of getting paid overtime we get “comp time” which is extra vacation time to make up for all the overtime. It’s a great concept in theory. For example, I have taken a total of 6 full days off and perhaps 3 half days this year. Which isn’t a lot…I’ll get to that later. But, as of today I still have 173.6 hours left…which is about 21 days of vacation left. That’s a lot. However the problem is that there are 3 people that work in my office. Me, the tax preparer Ric and Larry the boss. So, if one of us is out, it’s kind of hard for anyone else to be gone because someone has to answer the phones and do all the other things…and no one likes to do my job except me. Therefore, it’s the end of August and up until last week I’d only taken 3 days off. I desperately needed a vacation. I just want my 21 days worth!!

This week it’s back to normal. I’m feeling a bit under the weather today, so I didn’t go to yoga. I think I just needed a night to relax. I feel rather over scheduled some days, since pretty much every day I have an obligation after work. Weekends from now on will be spent packing or moving or trying to not be totally exhausted. Where did all of my free time go? I really wish I could have back all that time I wasted while I was in college. I used to sleep till like 11….stay up till 2, be lazy all day, spend the weekends doing nothing…all the while stressing about homework projects that really don’t matter at all. I could really use some of that time back.

Moving day is 17 days away, and i’m surprisingly more relaxed about the entire situation than I was a few weeks ago. I think it’s because everything is in place and all we  have to do now is pack and unpack. Of course, next week Josh will officially become homeless and will be staying with me for 10 days. That’s going to be hard simply because with such a small space we will be tripping over each other. It could be fun though…like camping.

Well I think I’ve rambled on for long enough, I will try to post when I’m not so completely exhausted…perhaps Friday!

This little guy certainly seems to enjoy a good peanut.
