“Here, jump over this cactus”

Yes, Josh and I are getting to be pros at geocaching. So far we’ve found 24 which may seem like a lot, but it’s nothing compared to the thousands other people have found. We even made a trip out to the military surplus store to get a few containers of our own so we can hide a few. We have one good spot picked out, and we’re planning on hiding one in our office park in a little bit. There’s still one in Bull Creek that we can’t seem to find, but I think our GPS drops the signal in that particular area, because it has no idea where we are. We’ll find it though!

Other than the bumps, scratches and bug bites, geocaching is really fun. I definitely need to invest in some suitable outdoor gear though. Cargo capris, tennis shoes suitable for hiking, some non-versace sunglasses.

It’s almost time for the big Vegas trip…16 days and counting. I think I have all the reservations made, outfits picked out and shopping points of interest highlighted on my map. I’m excited to see all of my friends and to spend some time relaxing. Any time I get to spend out of the office is always welcome!

We saw The Dark Knight this weekend and enjoyed it very much. It was really entertaining and I’m sure there will be plenty of sequels to keep us entertained for years to come. There were so many previews before the movie, and sadly I wasn’t too blown away by any of them. The new James Bond movie looked good, but that might have just been Daniel Craig…ahem.

I’m not sure what this weekend will bring. We really need to wash the cars and do some cleaning around the apartment. Thrilling, I know. Work has been slowing down slightly for me, and I’m starting to be able to get more done after work. It makes a big difference to be able to run errands after work instead of on the weekend.  I hope everyone is keeping cool, it’s supposed to be 103 today, but luckily it’s a constant 72 degrees in my office, so I hardly notice until I get into my car at 5 and burn my hands off.

Attitude

While in Charleston, we had the pleasure of eating at Hyman’s Seafood. In their bathroom they had all these funny little business cards with clever sayings on them to read during your stay. I took this one with me and I will share it with you now:

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than succes, than waht othe rpeople think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company… a church… a home. The remarkable thing is that we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people act a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude… I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to make and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you…we are in charge of our attitudes.”

Geocaching

Have you ever heard of geocaching? It’s our new hobby! After seven years of searching for a hobby to do together, Josh and I have finally settled on geocaching. I think it’s the perfect balance of technology and doing something outside that might result in exercise. Here’s how it works: you log on to a website like geocaching.com and search for some caches in your general area. Then you program the coordinates into your handheld GPS unit and mosey on over to the location where you search for the hidden cache. Some of them are pretty big and relatively easy to spot, and some of them are so tiny it takes three trips and 40 minutes of pacing to locate. Once you find what’s hidden you open the container and sign your name in the log book.  Sometime there are little trinkets or treasures to exchange, but most of the time it’s a nice enough reward just to find it. We’re lucky enough to live in an area with tons of them within 10 minutes, and since we live in Bull Creek there are several that we can even walk to. I really love it, and so far Josh and I have found 10 of them. Of course, that’s nothing compared to the people on the website who have found thousands, but for only two weekends of searching I think we’re doing pretty good!
