My last few hours of quiet before my sister and her family arrive. I celebrated with a nap and a trip to Katy Budget Books. I had a list of 17 books I wanted to read, and found 3. I’m certain more of the books were there, but seeing as how I haven’t read them yet, I wasn’t sure if they were general fiction, trade paperbacks, suspense, mystery or whatever. I think party of the fun of that store is just searching until you find something you’d want to read, and three books should hold me for a while. I’m heard rumors that there is an institution called a “library” that will lend you books for free. I might need to look into that.
Josh is on his way down now, and I know he really needs a few days off. His work has been so busy lately that I hope he actually gets to relax. My mom and I have been cooking a lot. Really we’ve been cooking more than any family will ever need to eat, but that’s beside the point. She just likes the cooking and cares very little for how much we can actually fit into our tummies. There are 4 different kinds of bread available to me tomorrow (and not a moment before) so much for the low carb diet.
Anyway, I hope everyone has a very happy thanksgiving, and if you are stupid enough to go shopping on the friday after, then may god have mercy on your soul. Happy Turkey Day!

I just joined Twitter, so if anyone else is out there that wants to follow me, my twitter name is kathrynocity. It’s kind of fun. I enjoy thinking that others are interested in what I’m doing at any given moment. Josh is working on putting a little widget on this site that will post my tweets. And, JSYK, the past tense of tweet is not twat. Apparently that is a not nice word. Who knew! Crazy kids.
I’m also considering joining linkedin, so if you’re a member you can invite me. I think that’s less foolish than myspace or facebook.
The dinner on Friday night was absolutely delicious, and thank you to Brandon for his inspiring recipes. I can’t believe we ate the entire beef tenderloin, but we certainly did. I didn’t have the desired effect of an immediate proposal, so I will admit to be slightly disappointed. However, after much stewing and discussions on the bed, I think my chances are pretty good at an engagement before the end of the year. Of course, I’ve said that before, so who the hell knows at this point?
I’m in Katy this entire week hanging out with my parents, so if you’re likewise situated, please give me a call. Happy Almost Thanksgiving!

Many years ago I was watching Oprah, and she did a whole piece about this wonderful concept called Engagement Chicken, whereby you cook a chicken dinner for your boyfriend, and he is so enraptured with your cooking and domestic abilities that he can’t help but to propose ASAP. The general concept is explained in this article.
Fast forward several years later, and I come to discover that the love of my life isn’t exactly a fan of roast chicken. So, after 7 years, 5 months and 6 days of dating I’m going to try my hand at engagement chicken, Josh style. As Josh is more of a meat and potatoes kind of guy, that’s exactly what he’s going to get.
The menu I’m planning is as follows:
Beef Tenderloin Stuffed with Spinach and Gorgonzola, served with Red Wine Reduction
Whipped Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes
Roasted Carrots
Chocolate Fondue
I realize that cooking a single meal isn’t going to change the mind of the world’s most stubborn man, but I figure it can’t hurt to push him towards the right direction. The way I figure, this weekend is the last chance I have to get engaged before the end of the year, and still have enough time to plan a wedding for next fall. I’m also hoping to be engaged before Josh’s family invites my family over for a party after Thanksgiving. Don’t you think it’d be a lot more festive if we were actually engaged?
So, wish me luck friends. I’m hoping that this is the ultimate tipping point in our relationship. If it works, I’ll be thrilled and will probably brag about my culinary prowess for years to come, and if it doesn’t work I’ll have an entire pot of chocolate fondue to sooth my aching heart.
